Course overview

Your adventure into the professional levels of recreational diving and your first steps to your dream job begins with the PADI Divemaster program. Working closely with a PADI Instructor, this program will greatly expand your diving knowledge and hone your in-water skills to the professional level. PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities, qualifying you to conduct PADI Discover Local Diving, ReActivate, Discover Snorkeling and Skin Diver (Advanced Snorkeling) programs as well as assist instructors with student divers on other PADI courses and programs.  You also have the option to extend your learning and divemaster rating to the DSD Leader Program, which enables you to conduct the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program in confined water settings.

During the PADI Divemaster program, you learn dive leadership skills through in person instructor lead theory sessions, independent study and practical applications. You will be required to complete water skills and stamina exercises, as well as other training exercises that will stretch your ability to organize and solve problems. You put this knowledge into action through practical applications, assessments and workshops.

At IDC we believe in getting you, the Divemaster Candidate, involved as part of our team. This will enable you to learn about professionalism and teaching techniques that apply to Divemaster’s and have an opportunity to observe and assist a variety of courses with multiple instructors to gain familiarity with the diversity of PADI programs and teaching methods.

The Divemaster Course is a 9 week program to allow you to grow and develop your skills effectively throughout this period.  Divemaster candidates are responsible for some of their own learning both theory and practical.  Please contact the team at IDC for specific course schedule and requirements.

The Divemaster course is a 9 week program, with 18 scheduled days of training.  You are also required to complete the online Divemaster workshops.  To get the most out of the program, it is recommended that you supplement this training with independent practice, which the team at IDC and your instructor can help to facilitate.

As well as skill development, evaluation and practical assessments, in-water exercises will include some swim tests and a rescue evaluation. These must be completed to a satisfactory level in order to complete the course, students are usually provided an opportunity to perform these assessments early in the course to allow time to work on anything that may prove to be a hurdle.
