Be prepared to save a life when seconds count! The Emergency First Response (EFR) course provides comprehensive primary care (CPR) and secondary care (first aid) training for medical emergencies—both on land and around the water.

This course is open to everyone (no scuba certification required!) and fulfills the mandatory CPR and first aid prerequisite for divers continuing on to the PADI Rescue Diver course, as well as professional ratings like PADI Divemaster and Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Detailed Course Curriculum

Part 1: Independent Self-Study (Before Class)

To maximize hands-on skill practice during classroom time, students complete independent study prior to class arrival:

  • Watch the Emergency First Response instructional video to preview emergency response procedures.
  • Read the Participant Manual and complete all assigned Knowledge Review questions prior to the session.

Part 2: Classroom & Practical Hands-On Workshop

Our classroom sessions are interactive, practical, and scenario-driven. You'll review knowledge questions with an instructor before jumping directly into hands-on skill practice, scenario roll-plays, and realistic emergency management exercises.

Primary & Secondary Skills Covered:

  • Scene Assessment & Safety: Identifying hazards and using protective barriers (gloves/masks).
  • Primary Assessment & CPR: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and rescue breathing techniques.
  • Critical Care Management: Serious bleeding control, shock management, and spinal injury stabilization.
  • Secondary Assessment: Systematic injury and illness assessments.
  • First Aid Application: Bandaging techniques, splinting dislocations, and fracture stabilization.
