Women’s wetsuit tips when buying online, 4 things to know

Shopping for a women's wetsuit online can feel overwhelming with so many brands, cuts, and neoprene thicknesses available. Whether you are gearing up for tropical snorkeling, temperate ocean swimming, or cold-water scuba diving in British Columbia, getting the right fit is critical to staying warm and comfortable. Here are four essential tips to help you choose the perfect wetsuit from the comfort of your home.

1. Size Matters (And Varies Between Brands)

Just like everyday clothing, wetsuit sizing varies significantly from store to store and brand to brand. You might fit comfortably in a size 8 in Aqua Lung, but require a size 10 in BARE or Henderson. Furthermore, manufacturers occasionally update their sizing cuts when releasing new product lines.

Pro Tip: Always consult the specific brand size chart linked on each product page and grab a soft tape measure (or ask a friend to help) to check your height, chest, waist, and hip measurements. A wetsuit must fit snugly like a "second skin" without restricting breathing—if it is too loose, water will circulate continuously through the suit and flush away your body heat.

2. Hassle-Free Sizing & Size Exchanges

Torn between two sizes and unsure which to order? You are not alone! While our staff can help interpret size charts and recommend cuts based on our extensive experience, every body shape is unique. Occasionally, a suit arrives and feels just a little too snug or slightly loose.

Our 1-Time Free Size Exchange Guarantee

We offer a 1-time free size exchange on online wetsuit purchases within Canada! As long as the suit is clean, unused, and returned with all original packaging and tags attached within 14 days of purchase, we will cover standard or expedited shipping for your replacement size. 3. Stay Warm: When in Doubt, Choose Thicker Neoprene

If you are stuck deciding between two neoprene thicknesses—such as a 3mm vs. 5mm or a 5mm vs. 7mm—it is almost always best to opt for the thicker suit. Overheating on a dive or snorkel session is rarely an issue because you can easily flush a small amount of cool water through your collar. However, getting chilled will ruin your dive quickly. As you complete repetitive dives over several days, your body loses core thermal reserves, making extra exposure protection a lifesaver.

4. Don’t Forget to Accessorize!

If you are investing in a wetsuit for thermal protection, don’t neglect your hands, feet, and head! You lose a significant amount of body heat through exposed extremities.

  • Boots & Socks: Ensure your boots match your fins and provide adequate sole protection for your entry points.
  • Gloves & Mitts: Ranging from 3mm tropical gloves to heavy 5mm/7mm cold-water mitts for dexterity and warmth.
  • Hoods & Hooded Vests: You would be amazed by the difference a 3mm or 5mm hooded vest makes when layered underneath a standard wetsuit. It blocks cold water flushes down your back and keeps your core warm on extended dives.
