Product Description
Welcome to a classic Vancouver Island diving adventure! This trip is an intensive, one-day immersion into the world’s best cold-water diving environment. The waters of British Columbia are known for a phenomenon called Polar Gigantism, where invertebrates grow to extraordinary sizes due to the cold, nutrient-rich currents.
This itinerary is specifically designed for the committed cold-water diver, providing access to two of Nanoose Bay’s most famous shore-accessible sites: Madrona Point and Tyee Cove.
The Reward: Giant Marine Life
While tropical diving offers brilliant colours, the Pacific Northwest offers drama, scale, and density of life. Over the two dives, we will be seeking out the region’s signature creatures:
- Giant Pacific Octopus (GPO): The world’s largest octopus, frequently found in the rocky dens of both sites.
- Wolf Eels: The charismatic, large, snake-like fish that often live in monogamous pairs within crevices. Tyee Cove is home to the famous resident, “Grandpa.”
- Vibrant Invertebrates: Expect to see dense carpets of White Plumose Anemones, Sponges and countless Nudibranchs.
- Sea lions: Encounter some playful sea lions during your dive at Madrona or Tyee Cove
- Certification: Advanced Certified Divers ONLY.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 Cold Water Dives logged.
