Howe Sound Glass Sponge Dive May 27Date: May 27th 2012Price: $134.95Description:IDC is pleased to announce that we are returning to the Glass Sponge Bioherm in Howe Sound to further explore this distinctive and ancient reef system. While we lack extensive coral reefs in our temperate waters we have something much more unique in glass sponge reefs. Most of the known Bioherms in BC are not accessible to divers either due to depth or location; however, we are fortunate enough to have one of the rare exceptions in our own backyard. Not only that, but this site in particular is appropriate for both recreational and technical profiles. Join us aboard the Topline as we explore this precious ecosystem. Aside from the sponges themselves, there are plenty of juvenile rockfish of several species, squat lobsters, a variety of crabs, nudibranchs and as always a chance to encounter an octopus or wolf eel, if you’re lucky. Due to the sensitivity and ecological value of this site a minimum certification of GUE Fundamentals is required. The trip is led by Alan Johnson. Price includes 2 dives, hot drinks and snacks on the boat.. Trip includes: Guided Dive |
