When Halcyon decided to develop its LED Scout, they knew that it wasn’t enough to rush a product to market just to be among the first. Although some characteristics of LED lighting are immediately attractive, such as long burn times, extended service life, and a bright white color temperature, they had never been impressed with the LED’s ability to provide the focused beam that they want out of a back-up light. Early attempts at LED backup lights were excellent at close range as surface signaling lights, but at a distance or when signaling a buddy during the dive, the existing LED technologies fell well short of our standards.
Halcyon search for a focused LED has paid off and they have raised the bar once again with the new 3-watt LED Scouts. The new 3-watt LEDs provide the light output to equal or surpass the 1-watt LED Scout with a tightly-focused beam and 50% more brightness. The enhanced intensity together with a carefully focused beam operating within a highly visible color temperature increases contrast and substantially improves visibility; yet, the new 3-watt LED Scout maintains the reliability and long bulb life that you have come to expect from Halcyon.
At the core of its LED system, Halcyon uses a completely sealed bulb and ballast. While other manufacturers uses LED bulbs with exposed circuitry that will be damaged by exposure to moisture, the Halcyon LED assembly is sealed to provide maximum protection against the environment. Not only is the unit sealed against the elements, its bulb is rated for 10,000 hours of continuous use. Halcyon Manufacturing has licensed Tektite Industries’ U.S. Patent No. 6,168,288 for LED flashlights.
